China's Gasoline Demand to Face Challenges: Fitch
[Dow Jones] Overproduction of gasoline amid shrinking consumption due to a slowdown in auto sales will stunt China's gasoline demand growth in the near term, says Renee Lam, head of energy and utilities of Greater China in Fitch Ratings. She says year-to-date, China's output of gasoline has risen about 10% to 11% while demand has only grown about 4% to 5%. Most of the surplus is contributed by independent refiners known as teapots, many of whom have reconfigured their operations to produce more gasoline than diesel. "Given there will more refining capacity coming online next year, we see challenges ahead for China's refining industry," she adds.
