Global oil demand is expected to grow by 1.3 million barrels a day in 2016 and 1.4 million barrels a day in 2017, according to forecasts made by the Paris-based bank Societe Generale. In a note, the bank says the main area of growth will come from emerging markets, known as the non-OECD, who it forecasts will see GDP growth of 4.1% and 4.5% in 2016 and 2017 respectively. For developed countries, it forecasts GDP growth for 2016 and 2017 at 1.8% and 2.0% and expects oil demand to contract slightly by 20,000 b/d and 60,000 b/d in the same period.
