BP and Rosneft Create Joint Venture to Explore for Oil in East and West Siberia
By Alex MacDonald
LONDON--Russia's state-owned oil company Rosneft (ROSN.MZ) said Friday it has created a new joint venture with U.K. oil major BP PLC (BP) to conduct oil and gas exploration in eastern and West Siberian parts of the Russia.
The joint venture marks the culmination of a preliminary agreement signed last year. The joint venture will focus on onshore exploration over a 260,000 square kilometer area in the basins of mutual interest. The joint venture, called Yermak Neftegaz LLC, will be 51%-owned by Rosneft and 49%-owned by BP.
In the initial stage, the joint venture will carry out further appraisal work on the 2009 Rosneft-discovered Baikalovskiy field inside the Yenisey-Khatanga basin and on exploration of Zapadno-Yarudeiskoye, Kheiginskoye and Anomalnoye licenses in the West Siberian basin.
It plans to start field work in the upcoming 2016-2017 winter season
