Brexit Adds Uncertainty to Oil Investments, Says HSBC
[Dow Jones] The recent rise in Brent prices--from $34 a barrel in the first quarter to $46 a barrel in the second quarter--should help stem the decline in business investment in oil sector. However, the Brexit vote to pull U.K. out of the European unio "creates uncertainty about the outlook for growth in international trade and global GDP growth," two analysts at HSBC say. "The process of the U.K. leaving the EU will probably involve a long period of negotiation that could depress business investment and trade throughout Europe. This could lead to further U.S. dollar appreciation and have knock-on effects in the U.S. by restraining the growth of business investment in export-oriented sectors of the economy," they say.
